Beatiful! Are you sharing the recipe and is it perishable? Thanks in advance for sharing

@ nketiaa....I'm sorry. I had actually done a post (on www.hairlista.com) on a few different home made curly pudding recipes that I found through my online research. I've never tried the Miss Jessies, Carol's Daughter, Kinky Curly products for Curly Pudding because I can't afford their prices. So I searched for a way to make my own. Anyway, the recipe that I used was recipe # 4 from this post

Here is the link for the follow up post that I did with her results.

The shampoo brush that I used to create the curl definition is on page 2 of the comments pages for this post, and they're available for under $1.00 at Sally Beauty Supply w/the combs or right near the cash registers, and also online as well. Here is a direct link to the pink brush that I prefer (It's easier to hold)..:

To answer your other question, I think the recipes should be fine as far as being non-perishable because the Activator Gel has preservatives in it. If you'd feel better about adding your own preservatives to your recipes, a great web site that I've used and can recommend is www.fromnaturewithlove.com. I've found some really great products at as far as using them on their own or as ingredients for different recipes (I can be a bit of a mad scientist in the kitchen with hair recipes.).....They also have a rather impressive selection of different "Butters", natural oils, etc. It's a really great web site for finding natural ingredients. Here is the the direct link to their "Preservatives" Section:

http://www.fromnaturewithlove.com/soap/Preservatives.asp

If you wanted to make your own curly pudding that is petroleum & mineral oil free, then you could substitute the cocoa butter sticks (they contain mineral oil) for raw cocoa butter, and omit the beeswax (which if bought at a beauty supply store will probably contain petroleum/petrolatum)....Or if you don't want to buy the raw cocoa butter or use the sticks, then Palmers 3.5 oz tubs of cocoa butter are basically the same thing as the sticks. . Home made curly pudding is basically melting cocoa butter or shea butter (or a combo of both) and then adding it to activator gel. You could even add in a natural oil if you wanted to such as Jojoba Oil or Extra Virgin Olive Oil, just to give a couple of examples. A great (and reliable) web site that I've found Raw Yellow Shea Butter and Raw Cocoa Butter at is

www.madinaonline.com

And they also have these available in bulk as well too!! I prefer the Raw Yellow (Un-Refined) Shea Butter as opposed to the Refined White Shea Butter because it's more pure and retains more of it's great beneficial properties that Shea Butter is so well known for, but that's just my personal preference. They have White Shea Butter available as well as natural oils (such as Jojoba Oil) and other great products. And here is a link to a web site that sells 100% Pure Beeswax:

http://www.mehndiskinart.com/Beeswax.htm

The great part about the recipes is that you can basically tweak them and add in whatever products that you like to make it custom tailored for you. For example, if you don't want to use the beewax (ie: the # 4 recipe that I used) you can omit it. One note that I will make is that if you do choose to use the beeswax in your version, that there have been some complaints as to washing it out later. I followed a lady's suggestion from the web site I got the (# 4) recipe at and used liquid dish washing soap to wash her hair out the first 2 lathers, and then followed up with a 1 lather of her regular shampoo. And I did a hot oil treatment with heat for 30 minutes. Anyway, I hope one of these recipes works out for you!
