BLOG: URBAN EYE: THE DREAM, D'ANGELO, IVERSON AND MORE...

Hey Kids,

The world of entertainment has been busy for me, thank God!

As you know a big congratulations goes out to Oscar winners Mo'Nique and the first African-American screenplay writer, Geoffrey Fletcher for great work with PRECIOUS BASED ON THE NOVEL PUSH BY SAPPHIRE.

Award season is over; Now back to business as usual.

THE-DREAM IS RETIRING

Maybe becoming a Daddy again, has made The Dream fall out of love with being an artist. But, R&B singer and hit producer The-Dream has not held his breathe & made several claims last year that he intended to stop releasing albums after his upcoming LP 'Love King.'

It's the last album, period," he told MTV. "I really would like it to be the last one if I could -- in a perfect world."

If you don’t love something, then let it go & make room for someone else who does love it. Is he forsaken his gifts & blessings…or is this part of his pre-ordained journey? You decide!

The-Dream has already released two successful album's -- '2007's 'Love/Hate' and 2008's 'Love vs. Money' -- but he has also scored huge successes for his work with other artists, including Beyonce and Rihanna's hit songs 'Single Ladies' and 'Umbrella.'

He told MTV that his heavy workload with other artists has prohibited him from dedicating ample time to his own work, especially getting in shape for his own performances. "Doing those things [for everyone else] prohibited me from being a certain individual or shedding 10 pounds when I wanted to," he said.

Dream explains that he would gladly leave his solo career behind in favor of his writing and production work, but he says that leaving the game at his peak won't be easy. "In the back of my mind, I'm thinking a fighter fights," he said. "You don't retire on top. [Michael] Jordan didn't retire on top. I'm not saying I'm the best, but I'm the best at what I can do. And I can stop now and say, 'This album is pretty good.' "

The-Dream's third studio album 'Love King' is slated to hit stores this spring.

D'ANGELO BUSTED FOR SOLICITING A COP

Damn! That drug monster is a beast with a tight ass grip. Grammy Award-winning R&B singer D'Angelo was arrested after allegedly offering an undercover policewoman $40 for oral sex while cruising alone through the West Village of NYC with $12,000 stashed in his SUV.

Now, I could see if D’Angelo was an unattractive cat, and even though his 6-pack abs is a thing of the past, there are lots of chicks, who could care less. But cruising the blvd for a “b-j” screams a little like Eddie Murphy tendencies, if you know what I mean.

D'Angelo, 36, whose government name is Michael Archer, was in his top-of-the-line Range Rover at Greenwich and Horatio streets at about 2:30 a.m. when he spotted a woman he took to be a prostitute.

Now if you’re familiar with that area as most New Yorkers are, then you know it ain’t like “Hookers at the Point.” The hoe stroll is filled with drag queens & tranny’s & such. I’m just saying….

D’Angelo was arrested and charged with solicitation after asking the woman for sex, the sources said. His manager declined to comment.

Damn…greatness down the tube. Let’s pray he gets help.

MICHAEL JORDAN COULD OWN NBA BOBCATS 100%

The NBA has approved Michael Jordan’s bid to buy the Charlotte Bobcats, and commissioner David Stern expects the league’s board of governors to approve the $275 million purchase by the end of next week, the AP reported.

This will be no surprise to us but, Jordan will become the first former player to own an NBA team and the second black majority owner behind Bob Johnson, who has lost tens of millions of dollars annually.

Stern said the league updated its background and financial checks on Jordan and found nothing to stop the deal. Stern said the six-time NBA champion is the sole investor in the ownership group for now, but expects him to try to find local partners.

Jordan is putting up all the cash in the deal, which is far less than the $300 million Johnson paid for the expansion franchise that began play in the 2004-05 season. The deal includes taking on more than $150 million in debt, covering future losses and putting millions more in capital to make improvements.

Kind of sounds like President Obama stepping into office with financial drama and lots of damage control ahead of him.

The Bobcats are expected to lose about $30 million this season.

The deal means the end of a money-losing run for Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television who saw the value of the team decline. The Bobcats have struggled to sell tickets and secure sponsorships since the NBA returned to Charlotte following the Hornets’ departure to New Orleans in 2002.

ALLEN IVERSON HAS DOUBLE WHAMMY DRAMA

Turns out Allen Iverson was handed two big breakups this week – one from, his NBA team, the other from his wife.

Word on the street is that Tawanna Iverson filed papers in Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court saying their 8½-year marriage is “irretrievably broken.” On the same day, the Philadelphia 76ers announced he would not return for the rest of the season.

After returning to the 76ers as a free agent in December, Iverson flew to Atlanta in February to be with his family as his four-year-old daughter, Messiah, dealt with an undisclosed illness.

Tawanna is asking for full custody of the couple’s five children, child support and alimony.

Allen’s my homie and he’s had a stressful & emotional year. No matter how much money you have, health will always be the wakeup call to keep everyone on the same playing field. I hope he can keep his sanity during this tough time.
