Why do people gossip? Who or what is behind this compulsion to spread rumors or talk about other people?

Speaking with a friend...She shared that she stop going to her Salon where she was paying $1,000 per styling...due to alot of gossip in the atmostphere...

Could this action of gossip create or increase productivity and success? Though there may be some that like to indulge in what is considered meaningless gossip against their neighbor, there is a great amount of clients that would much prefer to be relaxed with very soft music in their setting...

If I may ask, what about the young child getting the hair done...are they hearing gossip that they should not hear...or picking up the habit of gossip themselves...

What most pressing to know is if we really knew who the true perpetrator of gossip was, which is the enemy, we would not desire to indulge in gossiping against our neightbors, but increasing positive words and thinking!!! This increases the success of that salon and actually provides a free flowing positive energy!

Gossip in the past has affected many areas of many people's lives!!! It is not any longer a form of entertainment, but an insult to our Creator, and the person that is targeted!

Please share your thoughts on this matter!

This is a great discussion. I remember a few years ago when I went to a salon with hairdressers that spoke another language. When they were infront of their customers they spoke african, when they were by themselves, they spoke english. So when I went there, I was very quiet and they were washing my hair so they started talking about anothing client saying how they have bad hair, and their hair is bushy and hard and things like that, all I could do was frown upon them in the way that they are talking about someone who is paying them  and someone who they don't even know, it was terrible customer service. That's oneof the reasons I started doing my hair at home, it is also very hard tofind a stylist around you who values healthy hair.
