I had a 10 year client whom came faithfully every 2 weeks, that had only missed 1 Salon visit over this period of time. Well first of all we had grown really fond of each other and I also did her mom's hair as well. So she was sis and her mother was now mom to me.
She works as a Paralegal at a very well known company and has her stuff together and has a tell it like it is personality. Don't get me wrong she is the sweetest lady but I must say very short tempered. She uses really foul language and at first it was not that bad, I was just letting her e herself. She kinda only did it around me, then around certain other clients she considered cool, then others and then anyone. Well it wasn't so bad when we first started but as I grew in age, wisdom, my on Salon and God this became an issue for us.
I talked to her about it once and she became very angry about it but I made my point. She stated she loved me and the way I did her hair and that no one has ever made her hair grow the way I had and she was not leaving. " I think I was punked into continuing to do her hair, but she was paying so we left it there". That day we agreed to on something, I thought I had made my point because things changed.
Well a couple of years went on and we are coming back around the mountain again. This time I'm in my own Salon, more clients, closer to God and have a peaceful environment set. I began to notice the faces of some of the clients and I knew I had to rescue all of us.
So she moved across town and I thought maybe she would stop coming and I would not have to say anything. (WRONG) So I prayed hard because she was not easy to approach. But in the mean time its getting worse and now I'm offended. So I had to speak up, "and by the way it was never about the money".
Well she took it better than I expected, she did not raise her voice at me at all. But instead she sent me a farewell email and stated she did not want to be anywhere she did not feel comfortable. Wow, I thought only where you make others feel uncomfortable. I told her thank you and told her what kind of relaxer and color I used on her hair and wished her the best in her search for a new Stylist where she ran the Salon.
I apologized to my other clients and they applauded me for being more about Customers Service and less about the money. That I wanted to keep our environment safe and serene by all means.
I learned some issues need addressing right away.
