Hi Colleagues and Companions,
The struggle for most of us in the industry appears so easy and void of challenges. With that perspective and experience most of us overlook the significance of our relationship to our respective State machines through the State Board. It is more than an inspection! The Board governs our relationship to the federal government, state and local governments through the tax systems and how we operate our salons. Many of them double tax us for being independent while working outside of the box and your ourselves. Because of our success with booth renting they decided to enforce it via a new license, called Independent Contractor. Our practices were as old as Madame Malone and Madame Walker. But to shut off the flow of income into our communities, they demanded a cut.
Today, with the broad use and misuse of federal financial aid, our communities are faced with a new reality. Young women who only have a desire to care for their families and themselves are faced with the federal loan debacle. This loan game is just that a game to lock Siters into an obligation that will carry over into the middle years of their lives. Many will never reenter the legal world again. They will never pay taxes or even file them because of the tax grab techniques used by the various governmental agencies.
I don't want to belabor this issue. Simply present it for discussion. We need to organize all over the country. Our weight and influence is not fully appreciated by ourselves. We have power!!
Your Brother,
Marvin
